We offer multi-lingual, culturally sensitive services to low income Camden County youth and young adults ages 12-25 and their families.

We accept and welcome all to take part in educational, social, spiritual and service‑oriented programming.
We empower youth to form healthy relationships, make good choices, and develop into compassionate and socially responsible adults who make a positive difference in their community.
We address all environmental systems that impact the youth -- their home life, peers, schools, and neighborhood environment -- with appropriate programs, resources, and support.

LUCY Outreach was established to address the particular challenges and setbacks–teen delinquency, gang and drug recruitment and involvement, substance abuse in the home, teen pregnancy, a struggling public school system–faced by urban youth growing up in America’s poorest and most dangerous city.

In recognizing the critical role that each system–homes, families, schools, neighborhoods and friends–plays in a youth’s world, we seek to enhance their quality of life by filling the void of positive programming, by encouraging participants to work within their community, and by providing community services, resources, and support.

In 1985, thanks to the vision of then-pastor Monsignor Robert McDermott, the St. Joseph Pro-Cathedral Youth Ministry began to provide Camden teens with year-round educational and social opportunities outside of school.

In 2008, the program underwent a restructuring to address the particular challenges faced by Camden’s youth: teen delinquency, gang and drug involvement, substance abuse in the home, and teen pregnancy. The restructuring created new comprehensive and innovative programs along with a new name, LUCY Outreach, an acronym for “Lifting Up Camden’s Youth” coined by the teens themselves.

As of April 2016, LUCY transitioned from a Parish initiative to LUCY Outreach, a New Jersey nonprofit corporation with its 501(c)(3) designation received in October 2016 -- positioning us for growth and development. We look forward to continued cooperation with our historical supporters and the new opportunities that this provides.

      Kristin Prinn, MSW, LCSW

      Executive Director & Founder

After receiving her bachelor’s degree in sociology from Saint Joseph’s University, Kristin served a one-year mission along the United States-Mexico border in Chaparral, New Mexico. She stayed two more years, earning her master's degree, working with gang involved youth, and becoming fluent in Spanish. When she moved back to Philadelphia, she looked across the Delaware to Camden and became the youth minister of St. Joseph Pro-Cathedral, while completing 4,000 clinical hours as an in-home therapist to receive her LCSW.

In 2012, the program officially became known as LUCY Outreach, or Lifting Up Camden's Youth. Since 2008, all youth have graduated high school and are enrolled in some form of higher education or active-duty military service. In her own words, “I am committed to providing love, support and resources to this population, in hopes of someday, them having the opportunity to choose an alternative to life on the streets, as every child deserves.”

      Dan Mrazik

      Operations Coordinator

After graduating from Saint Joseph’s University in 2011 with a BSBA in Decision and System Sciences, Dan began a career in IT consulting and auditing. After working in his post-graduate position for two years, he moved to Portland, Oregon where he worked at a Montessori school, teaching and interacting with the young children, maintaining three separate garden properties, and caring for the school’s numerous animals. Now at LUCY, Dan handles all things operations including finances & budgets, technology and web presence, metrics, development, and donor management.

      Tanesha McQueen

      Youth Program Coordinator

Tanesha is a California native who moved to New Jersey her senior year of high school where she eventually attended Rutgers University–Camden as an EOF student, student athlete, and an Honors College student. A year after graduating from college, she enlisted into the United States Navy as an Information Systems Technician, and served 6 years on active duty and 5 years as a Reservist. As the Program Coordinator, Tanesha plans and runs all programs and interacts with the youth each day to ensure they continue to grow and mature.
